What kind of food makes a great tea party?
A tea party is an elegant and fun way to host friends and family for a luncheon or a special occasion, such as a bridal shower or birthday. The tea party experts at Mulberry House have put together a list of some of the must-have food items for your special tea party, whether we cater it in your home or at our restaurant.
Tea!
Number one on our list is, of course, Tea! The star of any tea party is a delicious selection of freshly brewed teas. Choose a variety of teas such as a traditional Early Grey or English breakfast, or offer other more exotic flavors for the more adventurous such as Raspberry Rooibos, Lime Gelato or Lavender Lemonade. There are also wonderful herbal and decaf choices – all available at our tea room. Make sure each table has its own sugar and milk available. Having a summer event? Iced tea may also be served.
Tea Sandwiches
No tea party is complete without delicious and dainty tea sandwiches. Tea sandwiches are usually made on white bread with the crusts cut off, cut into 4 diagonal pieces. They can be made with a variety of delicious fillings such as: English Cucumber & Mint; Chicken Salad, Curry, Raisins & Almonds; Truffled Egg Salad; Turkey, Aged Cheddar & Sweet Cranberry Spread. The filling can be anything you want, just keep in mind that they should be neat and easy to eat!
Scones with Clotted Cream and Jam
Another traditional addition to any tea party are scones served with clotted cream and jam. Clotted cream is a thick, creamy, white spread with the consistency of softened cream cheese, with both a sweet and savory taste. Scones can be made in a wide variety of delicious flavors and according to the season, including apple spice, chocolate raspberry, apricot and chocolate chip are just some of our favorites.
Tea Stands
A 2- or 3-tiered tea stand is the perfect way to display your tea sandwiches, scones and other delicious sweets and treats that you have prepared for your tea party. A traditional tea stand includes a tier of tea sandwiches, one with scones and baked goods, and the final with special treats and sweets. For a more substantial meal, consider starting your tea with a small salad, soup or also serve quiche.
